How to Care for Your Cast Iron Skillet

A well-kept cast iron skillet lasts a lifetime. With simple care, it becomes naturally non-stick. Here's a quick guide.

Seasoning (For New Pans)

This builds the first protective, non-stick layer.

  1. Wash & Dry: Clean your new skillet with warm water. Dry completely over low heat.

  2. Oil & Heat: While warm, rub a thin layer of high-smoke-point oil (or animal fat) over the entire interior. Heat on low for 10-15 minutes. Wipe out excess oil.

  3. Repeat: Let cool, then repeat step 2 two more times to build a strong base layer.

4. Final Coat: After the last round, apply a final micro-thin oil coat while the pan is warm.

Daily Care

  • Clean: Use hot water and a brush. Avoid soap.

  • Dry: Dry completely over low heat.

  • Store: Apply a drop of oil before storing in a dry place.
